Gathering Broken Light Poetry Reading & Book Launch

Clark County Poet Laureate Emeritus Heather Lang-Cassera wrote Gathering Broken Light, a poetry collection reflecting on the collective grief and sorrow following the 1 October tragedy, to honor all the victims and survivors. She began composing the pieces the day after Route 91 as a way to process her own emotions and thoughts, and then worked on writing and revising the poems for over three years. She has pledged to donate the royalties of the book to the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center to support the survivors.

Heather will be reading excerpts from Gathering Broken Light at The Writer’s Block in Las Vegas in a free dual book launch event open to the public with Jennifer Battisti, author of Off Boulder Highway. The book is now available at The Writer’s Block, Target online, Barnes & Noble online, Amazon, and elsewhere.

Heather Lang-Cassera was the Clark County Poet Laureate from 2019 to 2021 and she was named the 2017 “Best Local Writer or Poet” by the readers of Nevada Public Radio’s Desert Companion. She serves Nevada State College as a Lecturer teaching Creative Writing, College Success, and more, where she is also a Faculty Advisor for the writing club and the literary magazine, 300 Days of Sun. Her poems have been published by The Normal School, North American Review, Raleigh Review, and South Dakota Review, among many other publications. Gathering Broken Light was written with the support of a Nevada Arts Council Project Grant.
